Fredonia senior Brittany Feldman (Jamestown/Southwestern) won the women's 400 meters Saturday at the All-Atlantic Regional Track & Field Conference meet. Feldman hit the finish line in 57.65 seconds, 1.2 seconds faster than Plattsburgh's Marissa Jones. The first five finishers were all from SUNYAC schools.
The Fredonia baseball team scored two runs in the eighth to tie the game, and two more in the top of the ninth to hang on for a 6-5 win over Eastern Mennonite on Sunday in Myrtle Beach. The win improves the Devils to 3-1 this season.
Fredonia fell to Geneseo 7-1 in the SUNYAC Men's Hockey championship game at the Ira Wilson Ice Arena. The loss ended Fredonia's Cinderella run through the conference tournament. Seeded No. 5 at the start of play, the Blue Devils (13-11-4) had road wins at Plattsburgh and Oswego before falling on Geneseo ice for the seventh straight time.
Fredonia pulled its biggest upset of the season Saturday, a 3-1 victory over nationally ranked Oswego in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Men's Hockey Tournament. Goals by freshman Josh Biasillo and sophomore Jacob Haynes late in the first period were the turning point in the game, which featured another strong outing by sophomore goaltender Anton Rosen.
The senior tandem of Brittany Feldman and Sarah Couperus each had a second-place finish Saturday during the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field championship meet. The Blue Devils finished fourth in the team standings.
On Monday, Blue Devil junior men’s hockey player Luke Rivera presented a check for $20,500 to the Kaleida Health Foundation to benefit the Gates Vascular Institute’s Stoke Center. Rivera, of Pacific Palisades, Calif., is a finalist for the 2018 Hockey Humanitarian Award for his work organizing the annual Fredonia Stroke Awareness Game.
Fredonia freshman Ryan Dunner scored with 6:40 left as Fredonia rallied for a 4-3 road win over Plattsburgh in the first round of the SUNYAC Men's Hockey Tournament. Down 3-1 early in the second period, the Blue Devils (12-10-4) scored three unanswered goals and got a 55-save performance from sophomore Anton Rosen to advance the semifinal round at Oswego on Saturday night.
Fredonia sophomore Christian Krasnek (Springville/Griffith Institute) finished second in men's 3-meter springboard diving on the opening day of the 2018 SUNYAC Swimming & Diving championship meet.
Fredonia senior Mikayla Capestrani (Jamestown/Jamestown) has again been selected State University of New York Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track Field Athlete of the Week.
The State University of New York Athletic Conference has selected Fredonia senior Sam Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich.) as its Athlete of the Week and Fredonia freshman Ryan Dunner (Glassboro, N.J.) as its Rookie of the Week in ice hockey.
