Fredonia and Stevenson played to a 2-2 men's ice hockey tie Saturday at the Steele Hall Ice Arena. They also played to a 3-3 tie on Friday night. Both games went into overtime.
The old home will soon be the new home for the Fredonia Blue Devil basketball teams. Director of Athletics Jerry Fisk announced today that after this weekend's Potsdam/Plattsburgh series, all remaining home basketball games this season -- with the possible exception of the Buffalo State games -- will be played in Dods Hall.
The Fredonia baseball team will host its first annual "Pitch For Purple" game on April 28th when the Blue Devils take on Plattsburgh in a double header beginning at noon. The event is to raise awareness for domestic violence. It was originally scheduled for April 14, but moved to this weekend due to the weather.
The State University of New York Athletic Conference on Monday recognized two Fredonia Blue Devils as its divers of the week. First year student Ashleigh Reinhardt was chosen Women's Diver of the Week for the first time this season. For the fourth time this season, sophomore Christian Krasnek was cited as the Men's Diver of the Week.
Seniors Damone Brown (Haverstraw/North Rockland) and Justyn Haines (Albion/Albion) were second-place finishers Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon Spire Institute Division III Invitational. Each was worth eight team points toward Fredonia's eighth-place finish.
Fredonia has sent springboard divers to the last 12 straight NCAA Swimming & Diving Division III championship meets. Make that 13 straight following the announcement that sophomore Christian Krasnek is a late addition to the national meet in Indianapolis, Ind.
The late arrival -- or non-arrival, as some might opine -- of spring-like weather has necessitated the change in venue for the "Around the World for Yeardley Awareness Walk" on campus Wednesday. Instead of being held outside, the walk, spearheaded by the Fredonia Student-Athlete Advisory Council, has been moved to inside the Steele Hall Fieldhouse and the hours changed from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its Athlete, Rookie, and Goalie of the Week for men's ice hockey. Goalie of the Week is the sophomore Anton Rosén and Rookie of the Week goes to Josh Biasillo.
Fredonia completed its weekend sweep of SUNY Canton with a 5-2 men's hockey win Saturday afternoon at the Steele Hall Ice Arena. Todd Schauss (Terryville, Conn.) and Sam Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich.) each had a goal and an assist for the Blue Devils (7-5-1), who beat the Kangaroos (2-9-0) on Friday, 5-1.
The Fredonia women's basketball team evened its SUNYAC record to 2-2 with a 61-45 victory over Oswego on Saturday. Freshman Sydney Turley (Cheetowaga,/Cleveland Hill) scored 15 points and senior Jacque Law (Lime Lake/Pioneer) added 14 and 9 rebounds.
