Maria Green and Nicholas Dragonette, both senior Biology majors, were named Students of the Month for October by the Office of Residence Life.

“Both are bright, pleasant and motivated students,” said Dr. Ted Lee of the Department of Biology, who nominated them for the award.

As co-founders of the Health Professions Club, Green, of Loudonville, and Dragonette, of Orchard Park, have a key role in the club that provides advice to upperclassmen and serves as a forum for all pre-health students at SUNY Fredonia to discuss issues.

Green, who has a minor in Spanish, carries a 3.62 GPA and will be graduating in December. She was a four-year player on last year’s nationally ranked women’s varsity soccer team. Green organized, “Dining in the Dark,” an event that raised awareness of ocular diseases, and has completed research in the field of embryology at Southern California Institute for Reproductive Sciences. She plans to attend medical school and also continue Spanish studies.

Dragonette, who has a minor in Chemistry, carries a 3.65 GPA and is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society. He has been a member of a club lacrosse team since his freshman year, a biology tutor at the Learning Center and a teaching assistant for Organic Chemistry. Academic achievements include scoring in the top 90th percentile on the dental admission test and receiving the Adele Maytum Hunter Scholarship upon his nomination by the biology department. He plans to attend dental school after completing his undergraduate degree.

The Student of the Month program was implemented in 2003 to recognize students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics and contribute positively to the campus and community. If you would like to nominate a student, please visit: https://sites.google.com/a/fredonia.edu/student-of-the-month/.
