Biology research awardees will present results of work Friday

Students in th biology department who were awarded Research Scholarships to pursue inquiries in 2009 will present the results of their studies at the annual Biology Department Research Presentation Friday, Oct. 16, starting at 2:15 p.m. in Jewett Hall Room 101. Refreshments and a reception follows the two-hour event.

The research scholarships were funded through the Fredonia College Foundation by the Biology Alumni Endowment Fund, the Holmberg Foundation of Jamestown, NY, and the the Constantine Barker Foundation.

Presenting students, the titles of their presentations, and the names of their faculty supervisors are:

  • Leslie Swinehart: Study of Larval Fish and Minnow Richness along Shoreline Habitats of Lake Erie. Faculty Supervisor: Dr. Jonathan Titus
     
  • Katelyn Miller and Gabriel Shields: Little Brown Bats: Has White-Nose Syndrome Impacted Populations in Western New York? & Do Males Show Preference for Female Scent? Faculty Supervisor: Dr. Karry Kazial
     
  • Kristina Halliman: Cues of Fighting Ability in the Aggressive Songs of House Crickets. Faculty Supervisor: Dr. William Brown
     
  • Malachi Blundon: Using Lanthanides to Study Metal Ion Stabilization of DNA Tandem Mismatches. Faculty Supervisor: Dr. Matthew Fountain
     
  • Jack Padalino: Microbial Source Tracking of Lake Erie Beach Waters. Faculty Supervisor: Dr. Theodore Lee
     
  • Alex Staunch: Effects of Differing Hydrology and Substrate Application on Germination Rates of Woody Wetland Plants. Faculty Supervisor: Dr. Jonathan Titus
