Campus community makes blood drive a success

More than 125 people at SUNY Fredonia, including many first-timers, generously rolled up their sleeves in late November to donate blood to the American Red Cross.

The two-day drive, staged Nov. 27 and 28 at the Williams Center by American Red Cross Blood Donor Services N.Y./Penn District, netted more than 95 pints of blood – enough to save 280 lives in Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania, reported Pam Sudul, Red Cross account manager.

“They definitely increased from a year ago,” Ms. Sudul said SUNY Fredonia donors. More than 95 percent of the donors were students. They were joined by faculty and staff.

Donated blood is utilized at hospitals, trauma centers and cancer centers. “The blood goes to the people who need it to save lives,” Ms. Sudul said.
