Conference to explore gender issues April 16 & 17

A two-day conference, featuring a keynote speaker, faculty highlight and student roundtable, will explore gender issues on Monday and Tuesday, April 16 and 17, at the Alumni House of SUNY Fredonia.

Keynote speaker Serkan Gorkemli, assistant professor of English and coordinator of Queer Studies and Cyberqueer Studies at the University of Connecticut, will present “Sexuality, Media and the Nation State in Turkey” on Monday, April 16, from 5 to 7 p.m.Tuesday April 17, 4:00-6:00pm

On Tuesday, April 17, from 4 to 6 p.m., Dr. Kirstin Hanley, SUNY Fredonia will present "Mary Wollstonecraft, Pedagogy, and the Practice of Feminism." A student roundtable discussion will follow with participants Angela Barney, Amy Fisk, Kristen King, Melissa Mallaber, Shawna Racino, Victoria Rader, Kayla Patrick, and Amanda Snyder. 

Additionally, the Jeanette McVicker Scholarship Award Ceremony will honor this year's recipients Barney and Snyder.

The conference is being sponsored by the Department of Communication and Women’s Studies Program and is free and open to the public.
