Cynthia Ahlstrom named to College Council

Fredonia, N.Y. — Sept. 20, 2008 — New York Governor David A. Paterson has appointed Cynthia A. Ahlstrom of the Visiting Nursing Association of Western New York to the SUNY Fredonia College Council. Her appointment became effective in August 2008, and she will serve until June 2015.

Since 1992, Ms. Ahlstrom has been the Chautauqua County patient service branch manager of the Visiting Nursing Association of Western New York. She has several responsibilities, including coordination and implementation of skilled services for home care patients in Chautauqua County, preparing the financial budget, and managing and supervising all professional and paraprofessional home care associates.

Ms. Ahlstrom graduated magna cum laude from the University at Buffalo, earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1986. She also took on professional leadership course work at Cornell University and is now a home care coding specialist. She successfully completed qualifying examinations in 2004, 2006 and 2008.

Prior to earning her degree, Ms. Ahlstrom received an associate degree from Jamestown Community College. She has worked as a hospital registered nurse in emergency, surgery and pediatric units.

A native of Dunkirk, N.Y., she and her husband, Keith, are the parents of two children, Kory and Benjamin. She is currently a member of the Chautauqua County League of Women Voters and of St. Anthony’s Parish of Fredonia, N.Y.

Ms. Ahlstrom replaces David Maternowski, who completed a four-year term on the Council. Other members include Chairperson JoAnn Niebel of Dunkirk, N.Y., Angelo Bennice of Dunkirk, N.Y., Russell Diethrick of Jamestown, N.Y., Robert Heichberger of Gowanda, N.Y., Ann Manly of Fredonia, N.Y., Michael Sullivan of Fredonia, N.Y., and Carla Westerlund of Greenhurst, N.Y. Nicholas Dhimitri, a senior political science major from Ithaca, N.Y., is the SUNY Fredonia student association president and serves as the student representative.
