ENACTUS group to host Expo on its community-based projects

"Life is Fragile" is an anti-bullying project at Fredonia Elementary School undertaken by one of eight teams of ENACTUS this semester. The team partnered with Judith Pzybyla, school counselor, to work with a class of third grade students for four weeks to help the children understand more about bullying and learn positive reaction strategies.

SUNY Fredonia’s ENACTUS student group is hosting an informational exposition on Wednesday, March 20 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room to exhibit the community-based projects being undertaken by eight teams.

ENACTUS is a national group of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world. This year, the Fredonia chapter has eight teams that have found opportunities to fulfill the mission of ENACTUS through different projects.

The Expo team, consisting of Will Wickett, Ryan Couell, Ethan Powers and Mariah Kelly, has worked to create an event that aims to inspire engagement and increase awareness about Enactus.

Each team, as well as some of the partners in the community, will have a table set up at the expo to describe what they have accomplished this year. There will be information as well as activities that attendees may participate in with prizes and giveaways. There will also be information regarding the ENACTUS organization and how students can apply to be on next year’s team.

This year’s projects include:

• Greenwave - which focuses on helping local businesses go green, Fred20 – a creation of a sustainable water bottle,

• Recycle Ink – a program to recycle ink cartridges on campus,

• High School Leadership team that offers workshops on professionalism to high school students,

• Life is Fragile – an anti-bullying campaign in elementary schools,

• Think Before You Act – which works with college and high school students to make positive decisions and pledge not to drink and drive,

• The Cradle Beach Team, which works with Cradle Beach to build awareness of the initiative to serve disabled and disadvantaged youth, and

• Extramural – which works on bringing art to buildings in the City of Dunkirk.
