Film series continues with "Blazing Saddles" as it explores myths

The American Studies Film Series at SUNY Fredonia will examine “Myths of the American West” through the presentation of six influential films that span seven decades of filmmaking. A faculty member representing a different discipline will give an introductory talk before each screening.  All films start at 7 p.m. in Fenton 105, and are free and open to the public.

Myths of the American West Film Series:

• “Shane,” 1953, directed by George Stevens, introduction by History professor Ellen Litwicki, Feb. 13.
   
• “Blazing Saddles,” 1974, directed by Mel Brooks, introduction by English professor Bruce Simon, Feb. 27.
   
• “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” 1966, directed by Sergio Leone, introduction by Communication professor Kathleen McDonough, March 13.
   
• “Little Big Man,” 1970, directed by Arthur Penn, introduction by English professor Dustin Parsons, April 3.
   
• “Unforgiven,” 1992, directed by Clint Eastwood, introduction by Business professor Shazad Mohammed, April 17.
   
• “Django Unchained,” 2012, directed by Quentin Tarantino, introduction by English professor Shannon McRae, May 1.
