Lacrosse team defeats No. 20 Oneonta

The Fredonia State women's lacrosse team defeated SUNYAC opponent, No. 20 Oneonta, 13-8, at University Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Katie Glagolev (Jr.; Webster, N.Y.) scored five goals to lead the Blue Devil offense. Marissa Cussins (Jr.; Corning, N.Y.) added four goals, caused three turnovers, and recovered two ground balls.

Kristie Kleine (Fr.; Cazenovia, N.Y.) and Emily Polizzi (Fr.; Rushville, N.Y.) each scored two goals. Kleine also seized six draw controls and recovered four ground balls, both team highs.

Fredonia State improved to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the SUNYAC. Oneonta fell to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference. 

The Red Dragons jumped to an early lead after Casey Sarle converted on a free-position attempt shot. Fredonia State answered by scoring five of the next six goals -- three by Glagolev and two by Polizzi.

Oneonta opened the scoring in the second half as well but the Blue Devils responded with six consecutive scores to take an 11-4 lead.

Kiera McNally led the Red Dragons in scoring with four goals.

Chelsea Maderer (Sr.; Orchard Park, N.Y.) recovered four ground balls and caused three turnovers for the Blue Devils. Fredonia State will resume SUNYAC competition Tuesday when they take on Buffalo State at 4 p.m. in Buffalo.

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.
