Masterworks Concert to support scholarships will feature Gershwin's beloved 'Rhapsody In Blue'
The Fredonia School of Music will present the fifth annual Masterworks Scholarship Benefit Concert on Sunday, April 28 at 4 p.m. in King Concert Hall. The Fredonia College Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. David Rudge, will be joined by the 100-plus voices of the Fredonia Masterworks Chorus, directed by Dr. Gerald Gray, for an afternoon of music highlighting some of the most beloved American music of all time. A post-concert reception will be held in Mason Hall.
Now in its fifth year, the Masterworks Scholarship Benefit Concert is a performance highlight of the year for the School of Music. The program features some of the most noteworthy repertoire by American master composers, including Gershwin’s beloved “Rhapsody in Blue” featuring School of Music piano professor, Fr. Sean Duggan. The program also features the dramatic “School for Scandal” Overture by Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein’s beautiful “Chichester Psalms,” and another audience favorite, Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring.” The Masterworks Chorus will feature special guest soloist and alumnus, Raymond Chenez, ’06.
“We have been holding these scholarship benefit concerts for a few years now, and the effort is paying off,” said Karl Boelter, director of the School of Music. “The students that perform in this afternoon of great music-making give the audience a chance to help us chip away at a massive need. It is with a healthy scholarship endowment that we can assure the excellence of the School of Music, and we appreciate everyone's involvement in its development.”

All ticket proceeds, less $10 per ticket, will go directly to support music scholarships as administered by the Fredonia College Foundation. Additional contributions are also welcome and encouraged.
