Ann Carden
Guest speaker Ann Carden, APR
Center. The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter at SUNY Fredonia is sponsoring the event, and will provide food and beverages.

The workshop is intended for members of student-run groups, particularly leaders of campus groups, but is open to all interested students and faculty members.

Communication professor Ann Carden, APR, will be speaking about the value of good public relations and its relevance to campus groups.

“There are so many great events occurring on the SUNY Fredonia campus,” says Carden. “This workshop is a wonderful opportunity for student organizations to learn the basics of media writing and enhance the promotional efforts they use to publicize their activities.”

The student-run media writing workshop will inform students of the proper ways to promote campus groups and events, focusing on how to contact the media and to increase publicity through the use of public relations tools.

Some of the topics to be covered are how to write press releases and media advisories, and how to create effective flyers, posters and other print media.

The workshop will also discuss the appropriate situations to use these tools and will include a practice writing session.

Professor Carden’s students will receive extra credit for attending this event. Dr. Kevin Han’s Principles of Public Relations students will also receive extra credit for attending. Additionally, Dr. Linda Brigance is offering extra credit to her Persuasion, Political Communication, and Rhetoric and Criticism classes for attendance.

PRSSA was founded in 1968 by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). PRSSA’s declared purpose is to cultivate a favorable and mutually advantageous relationship between students and professional public relations practitioners.
