Medium Security Prison chaplain will be guest speaker for Criminal Justice Club on April 25
The Criminal Justice Club is hosting a discussion with Rev. Geraldine Buckley, former chaplain for Maryland's largest men's medium security corrections facility, on Thursday April, 25 at 7 p.m. in Fenton Hall Room 105. Buckley will relate experiences and answer questions about such issues as negotiating tensions and keeping harmony within a prison among the inmates and staff members.
Buckley is now on a speaking tour throughout the U.S. and will start a month long speaking tour in New Zealand in May. She has a colorful career history, having worked as a minister in London, England, a radio DJ, a television newsreader, events director, ghostwriter, food critic, magazine editor and award-winning performance poet.
Criminal Justice faculty member Dr. Melanie Pallone said the event will be interesting to anyone who wants to know more about the penal system, but also for those with career interests. "Western New York is home to a number of correctional facilities and this will be a great opportunity for criminal justice students to learn more about prison ministry and corrections administration," she said.
