To create awareness about the negative effects of tobacco, several organizations collaborate together for this free event on Wednesday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Williams Center. This event is open to SUNY Fredonia students, faculty and staff members, and surrounding community.

National Kick Butts day is a day of activism that encourages youth to stand and speak up against the tobacco industry. The goal of the day is to raise awareness about tobacco, encourage youth to reject the tobacco industry marketing and to encourage officials to take action to protect kids from tobacco.

The first Kick Butts Day was held in 1966.

The guest speaker will be Gabriel Stefanson who is a national youth advocate of the year for the Tobacco-Free Kids 2012 campaign. Stefanson has worked hard for tobacco prevention in the LGBTQ communities. His topic of discussion will be the effects of tobacco on an individual’s health and environment. He currently works for an organization called Out of Smoke.

Organizations and groups involved with this event include Keeper on the Dream Program, SUNY Fredonia Health and Counseling Center, FRED Well, Multicultural Affairs, College Against Cancer, Task Force and Campus Climate Challenge.
