NewSound presenting two concerts with pianists

Williams’ concert will sample works spanning the entire 20th century including composers such as Henry Cowell, Colin Nancarrow, Lukas Foss, John Cage and Maurice Kagel, which will feature SUNY Fredonia tuba professor Raymond Stewart.
Hilary Demske’s concert will focus on the works of a single composer, Henry Martin from New York City.
Amy Williams has appeared as a pianist and composer at renowned contemporary music venues in the United States and Europe. Her compositions have been performed by leading contemporary music soloists and ensembles. As a pianist, Ms. Williams has recorded for MODE and HAT-ART Records. She has had residencies at the Akademie Schloss Solitude (Germany) and Bellagio Center (Italy). She holds a Ph.D. in composition from the State University of New York at Buffalo, where she also received a Master's degree in piano performance. Before her current position as Assistant Professor of Composition/Theory at the University of Pittsburgh, she taught at Northwestern University and Bennington College.
First prize winner of the "Citta di Barletta" International Piano Competition, pianist Hilary Demske is a visiting professor of piano at the Fredonia School of Music and a native of Dallas, Texas. An active solo, chamber, and orchestral musician, she has garnered numerous awards both in the United States and abroad. An avid performer of contemporary music, she is current working on a recording project for Albany Records of the solo piano music of Henry Martin. Ms. Demske holds a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School and a Bachelor of Music degree from The Peabody Conservatory of Music. Additional graduate work includes study at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich, Germany. She is currently a candidate for the doctorate of musical arts degree at The University of Michigan.
