Paul Murphy studies Spanish music and gives paper in London

Paul MurphySchool of Music Professor Paul Murphy traveled in May to Madrid, Spain, for archival research in the music collection of the Biblioteca Nacional. His research is leading to a co-authored monograph with Cristóbal García Gallardo of the Conservatorior Superior de Málaga entitled, "Spanish Music Theory in an Age of Enlightenment."

In July, Dr. Murphy traveled to Coventry, England, to present a paper at the First International Conference of Dalcroze Studies, held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the opening of the London School of Dalcroze Eurhythmics in 1913. His paper, “Émile Jaques-Dalcroze and Rudolf von Laban: Exchanges and Perspectives, analyzes the simultaneous development of the two influential pioneers in music education, movement theory and somatic practices.
