Fall Sweep 2007
Last year’s SUNY Fredonia Fall Sweep drew more than 300 volunteer students, faculty, staff and community members to rake leaves and other debris in the Village of Fredonia.

This year’s event takes place on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m., beginning from the Dods Hall Gymnasium on the SUNY Fredonia campus.

Fredonia, N.Y. — October 30, 2008 — SUNY Fredonia’s Applied Communication Association (ACA) will be holding its fourth annual “Fall Sweep” on Sunday, November 9.

Fall Sweep is an annual volunteer event through which participants serve the community by raking leaves and other debris on Temple Street, Central Avenue and smaller side streets in the Village of Fredonia.

This year’s Fall Sweep will begin at 10:30 a.m. with registration at the Dods Hall Gymnasium on the SUNY Fredonia campus. Raking will begin at 11 a.m. on Temple Street and Central Avenue, and will continue until 1 p.m. when a reception at Dods Hall Gymnasium will begin.

SUNY Fredonia’s Faculty Student Association will provide refreshments and the campus a cappella group, “Some Like it Hot,” will perform.

Last year’s event involved over 300 students, as well as faculty and staff members, sports teams and community members. All students, faculty/staff and community members are invited to participate this year as well.

“Fall Sweep has become a wonderful and traditional community service program for Fredonia students,” says Dr. David Herman, Vice President for Student Affairs. “It demonstrates the caring nature of our students and allows the local community to share their youthful enthusiasm for one glorious fall afternoon.”

Fall Sweep originated in 2005 through the efforts of ACA and SUNY Fredonia’s Advanced Leadership Program as a way to give back to the community and strengthen its ties with local residents. It is also sponsored by the Golden Key International Honour Society, with help from the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), and the Office of Student Affairs.
