Summer Music Festival for high school instrumentalists is June 26 through July 2

Registration for the Fredonia Summer Music Festival is only $695, which includes housing, meals, and a camp t-shirt. Commuters pay $375 (meals not included) or $535 (meals included). The registration deadline is Friday, June 3. A limited number of scholarships are offered based on the instrumentation needs of the camp - most often for oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, French horn, and low brass.

The 21st annual Fredonia Summer Music Festival will be held from Sunday, June 26 through Saturday, July 2.
Set on the beautiful campus of SUNY Fredonia and housed in the university’s School of Music, the Fredonia Summer Music Festival takes advantage of the campus’ first-rate facilities and world-class teachers. All of the festival faculty are also professors at the university. Outstanding performers and teachers provide unique opportunities for learning, improving technical skills and expanding musicality.
Instrumental students currently enrolled in grades 9 through 12 are invited to attend the Fredonia Summer Music Festival. In addition to band rehearsals, chamber ensembles and jazz groups, students will attend daily musicianship classes (music theory, conducting, jazz improvisation, and/or music technology), participate in master classes, attend special evening recitals, and have time for individual practice and recreation. The Fredonia Faculty Brass, Woodwind and Percussion ensembles will be featured during evening recitals.
The Wind Symphony will once again be directed by Dr. Martin Seggelke, conductor of the University of Minnesota-Morris Wind Ensembles and Professor of Conducting and Clarinet. Prior to his appointment at UMM, he taught conducting at the Eastman School of Music and served as Assistant to the Director of the Eastman Wind Ensemble and Eastman Wind Orchestra. Seggelke holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Conducting from the Eastman School of Music and a Master of Music in Conducting at SUNY Fredonia.
The Jazz Band will be directed by Bruce Johnstone, Director of Jazz Studies at SUNY Fredonia. Johnstone, a well-known saxophonist, has performed with Maynard Ferguson, Dexter Gordon, The Woody Herman Band and many others.
Members of the Fredonia School of Music faculty and special guests will round out the teaching roster, including: Susan Royal, flute; Sarah Hamilton, oboe; Amrom Chodos, clarinet; Laura Koepke, bassoon; Diane Hunger, saxophone; Marc Guy, horn; John Maguda, trumpet; Carl Mazzio, trombone; Barry Kilpatrick, euphonium; Ray Stewart, tuba; and Tiffany Nicely, percussion.
