SUNY Fredonia to host math/science camp for middle school students
SUNY Fredonia’s “Project PRIME” (Professional Resources in Mathematics Education) is offering a four-day camp called “Camp COMETS” (Creating Opportunities in Mathematics, Engineering, Technology and Science) for children going into sixth, seventh or eight grades. The students will be taught by SUNY Fredonia faculty and follow a fun and creative program designed to advance their knowledge in math, engineering and science.
The camp will run daily from Aug. 20 to 23 from 8 a.m. to noon in Thompson Hall.
The educational learning experience costs $60 for the week; however, there are a limited number of scholarships available.
“Children have the opportunity to participate in daily projects and laboratories that simulate “real-world” situations that will stimulate their imaginative thinking and problem-solving abilities,” said Dr. Keary Howard, a professor of Mathematical Sciences at SUNY Fredonia and one of the directors of the camp.
A variety of faculty members from the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the College of Education will direct the camp. All of the counselors are New York State-certified mathematics teachers.
