Department Chair

Welcome to the Physics Department at Fredonia! Our faculty and students comprise a tight-knit community that is excited about physics and engineering. We are interested in topics ranging from philosophical to practical. Our department offers you a variety of career tracks to choose from including a physics major, a minor, a major through the 3-2 Cooperative Engineering program, an initial certification to teach physics in secondary school, an interdisciplinary major in Mathematics-Physics, and a major in Industrial Management.

Our alumni have gone into successful careers in areas such as industry, academia, and education. Recent graduates have entered Ph.D. programs at Caltech, Rice, Dartmouth, Lehigh, William and Mary, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, and The University of Rochester. Recent 3-2 graduates are designing bridges for New York State, turbine blades for jet engines, gear systems for Pratt and Whitney, communication systems for railroads, truck diesel engines to meet new emission standards, prosthetic limbs for amputees, and computer systems for business.

Fredonia offers small classes that are taught by professors who have been selected for their teaching ability as judged by students. We emphasize collaboration and individual attention. Our faculty members are also accomplished scholars and enjoy involving undergraduates in their research.

Physics and engineering are demanding subjects, but physicists and engineers are in high demand. I strongly believe that Fredonia is an outstanding place to begin developing your talents and start your career, and I encourage you to contact or visit us!
