Requirements for the Minor in the Museum Studies Program

Required: 24 credit hours as outlined in the following charts. Students declaring a Museum Studies minor may use past courses retroactively after consultation with the coordinator.

INDS 202 Introduction to Museum Studies
INDS 302 Topics in Museum Studies

One Museum Internship/Practicum from the following, depending on track:
HIST 490 Public History Internship
or
ARTH 499 Art History Internship
or
ARTH 450 Gallery Practicum
or
ANTH 473 Museum Internship
INDS 494 Museum Studies Capstone
INDS 495 Museum Studies Portfolio Completion

Electives (12 credit hours chosen from history, art history, or anthropology, depending on track selected):

Art Track:
ARTH 101 or 102 Art in Culture to 1400 or 1400 to present
Three additional 200/300 level courses in Art History, as advised

Anthropology Track:
ANTH 115 Introductory Anthropology
ANTH 211 Archaeology
or
ANTH 219 Cultural Anthropology
Two additional 300 level courses in Anthropology, as advised*
*Courses in African, American Indian, or pre-Columbian Latin American history may also count toward this requirement.

Public History Track:
HIST 105 U.S. History I
or
HIST 106 U.S. History II
Three additional 300 level courses in American History, as advised
