Brand Style Guide

Fredonia’s brand standards were established in 2015 to ensure consistent, easily-recognizable visual assets are used to present Fredonia in a positive way to all audiences.

Fredonia's brand assets include the college and athletics logos, name, seal, colors, and other marks and images which are valuable assets and represent the reputation and achievement of Fredonia and its community.

Your cooperation in following these guidelines will strengthen and reinforce Fredonia's brand identity across all print and digital platforms.

The expandable links below have more information on how to use Fredonia's visual elements.

Institutional Image

Fredonia marks may not be used in conjunction with references to alcohol or drugs. Additionally, any use of any Fredonia logo that contains explicit sexual references or detrimentally reflects on the university image is not approved.

Minimum size requirements

The university logo must not be scaled below 1.5 inches wide for the one-line logo and 1.25 inches wide for the stacked version. The “State University of New York” becomes illegible at small sizes.

The athletics logo, the Fredonia Blue Devil, may be used only by the Athletics Department, campus bookstore, or by special permission from the Trademarks and Licensing committee and the Director of Athletics or designee. It may not be used in place of, or adjacent to, the State University of New York at Fredonia logo.  The Fredonia Blue Devil is a unique symbol for Fredonia's athletic teams, and, as such, may note be used to represent academic or administrative units of the university, clubs or intramural sports teams, college affiliates such as Student Association or Faculty Students Association, nor by individuals employed by the college. Exceptions for athletic-related events must be approved by the Trademarks and Licensing Committee and the Director of Athletics or designee.

The primary athletics logos (below) are blue and yellow, against a white background.

Aside from the familiar block "F" and the athletics logos, Fredonia has other official graphic identifiers; the FRED oval is one. No other graphic may be used to officially identify Fredonia.

The official graphic identifiers should not be used in combination with each other, and should not be incorporated into another logo.

Organizational units and departments within SUNY Fredonia should not create their own logos, word marks or other unique identifiers.  Departments can use "lockups" explained in the section above.

How to place the Fredonia logo in your signature

The use of the approved 2-color logo is acceptable for university email signatures. The logo should not be altered in any way from the original. We encourage all employees to include the logo within their email signatures. To do so, open the “Settings” tab in your gmail account, select “Settings” from the drop-down menu, and scroll down to the Signature box. Place your cursor where you want the logo to appear (as well as any name, title, phone, email, etc. text), and click “Insert Image.” DO NOT paste the actual logo into the signature. Instead, paste this link into the URL window:
