Among the many faculty works currently on display in the main art gallery at Rockefeller Arts Center are those of Peter Tucker, the newest faculty member in the Department of Visual Arts and New Media at the State University of New York at Fredonia.

Entitled “Old Goat/Spring Chicken – A Faculty Exhibition,” the exhibition features both old and new works by faculty members in the department.

Tucker helps put the emphasis on “new,” having joined the SUNY Fredonia faculty this semester after five years at the University of Texas.

“I like the closeness of the community here at SUNY Fredonia,” Tucker said. “It is lovely to have an arts department this strong at such as small school.”

As a professor of digital foundations at SUNY Fredonia, Peter Tucker has a unique artistic style. His work is characterized by a playful attitude of exploration and questioning. The point of his art is to re-contextualize everyday things and force viewers to consider their surroundings.

“I often take my inspiration from overlooked, details of everyday life,” Tucker said.

His works provide reminders of the beauty of the surrounding world and give the viewer the chance to take a moment to wonder, question and participate.

After earning his a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Oklahoma State and a bachelor of fine arts in studio art from the University of Texas at Austin, Tucker received his master of fine arts in studio for interrelated media from the Massachusetts College of Art.

“Old Goat/Spring Chicken” also features works by faculty members Bob Booth, Tim Frerichs, Justin Goetz, Phil Hastings, Jill Johnston-Price, Steve Komp, Liz Lee, Hidetoshi Sadohara and Megan Urban.

The exhibition runs through Oct. 18 and is free to the public. Gallery hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday
