Where: All concerts are in Rosch Recital Hall, Fredonia School of Music

Notes: Many concerts are free and open to the public, Special Guest Artist Concert featuring Roland Dyens is a ticketed event.

The theme of the 2009 Art of the Guitar Concert Series is Composer’s Alive! Each concert will feature music written for the guitar by living composers, which will include many world premiere performances.

All concerts will take place in the acoustically delightful Rosch Recital Hall, located in Mason Hall on the SUNY Fredonia campus. The Art of Guitar Series is supported in presented in part by Ethos New Music Society, The D’Addario Foundation for the Performing Arts, SUNY Fredonia School of Music, and The Fredonia Guitar Society.

James Piorkowski solo recital

This program will feature compositions written for the guitar by Fredonia School of Music guitar professor, James Piorkowski.

 


January 31, 8:00 PM
Marcus Wolf and Dennis Repino

These two standout SUNY Fredonia guitar alumni return to play their original solo and chamber music in this shared concert event.


March 24, 8:00 PM
Royal – Piorkowski Duo: Flute & Guitar
This exhilarating duo has been at the cutting edge of presenting new music for flute and guitar for over two decades, with critics raving about ”Susan Royal’s evocatively soaring flute and Piorkowski’s typically virtuosic guitar playing.”

Fredonia Guitar Ensemble

A concert by this first - rate “guitar choir” spans the timbral and international spectrum, and promises to be a musical delight.


April 16, 7:00 PM
Fredonia Guitar Quartet
The members of the FGQ were “plucked” from the guitar studios to form this superb ensemble, which will feature compositions by both Roland Dyens and James Piorkowski.

Chamber Made Guitar
A multifarious concert program centered by the classical guitar along with its numerous collaborations with voice, woodwinds and strings.


April 23, 8:00 PM
Student Guitar Compositions Concert
This highly distinctive event presents selections of the finest writing for the guitar by our current School of Music composition students.

Roland Dyens: Solo Recital

This French maestro is considered to be the “crème de la crème” of composers/arrangers/guitarists on the planet. He plays with an unfailing open-mindedness, which brings together all forms of music to each and every one of his programs.
