An artistic flair for room decorations has netted Sia Khanthavout, a first-year Communication: Video Production major from Buffalo, a $200 gift certificate from University Bookstore in the Almost Home Contest.

What was the inspiration behind Ms. Khanthavout’s décor in her Kasling Hall room?

“I gave my room a modern style and I decorated my room to make myself happy living here,” Khanthavout explained.

Key color-coordinated elements of the room include a letter board with a positive quote: “MINDSET IS EVERYTHING” and wire boards displaying colorful CDs and a FRED sticker on one wall. Strings of imitation leaves are strung on an adjoining wall.

Criteria used in the contest included: best use of space, neatness, appropriateness, creativity and overall appearance.

The Almost Home Contest, conducted by the Office of Residence Life, gives students a chance to make their bedroom and Fredonia feel like a home away from home.
