Social Studies Education Professor Robert L. Dahlgren of the College of Education wrote an article, "Freire’s Dialogic Process as a Means of Facilitating the Teaching of Controversial Public Policy Issues," published in a special issue of the urban studies journal Urbana devoted to celebrating the legacy of Brazilian pedagogue Paulo Freire's work.

The article was based on a study of three pre-service teachers that used the Freirean dialogic process to teach about the contentious issue of police reform during their student teaching experiences in urban public school settings.

Dr. Dahlgren will incorporate findings from his study in his upcoming EDU 404: Teaching Elementary Social Studies in Inclusive Settings courses.
