More than 55 students will join forces for the annual Orchesis Fall Showcase in October at SUNY Fredonia.

The Orchesis Dance Company presents “The Magic of Movement” from Oct. 10 to 12 in the Alice E. Bartlett Theatre on the Fredonia campus. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 and 11 and 2 p.m. on Oct. 12.

Tickets are available online 24/7. Tickets may also be purchased on Monday, Wednesday or Friday by phone at (716) 673-3501 or in person at the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center during the same hours.

Mackenzie Phelps, a BF.A. Dance and B.A. Psychology major, serves as president of Orchesis.

“Our show features 15 dances in a variety of styles, including contemporary, musical theatre, tap, jazz, and hip-hop,” Phelps said. “One of these pieces is our cast piece which is a collaborative work choreographed by our executive board that features nearly every dancer in the showcase.”

Phelps said Orchesis hopes the audiences will “walk away inspired by the creativity, passion, and individuality each dancer brings to the stage.”

“Orchesis Dance Company strives to give every student, regardless of experience, a platform to create, express themselves, and share their passion for dance,” she said.

The Orchesis Dance Company currently has more than 70 active members, and Phelps said approximately 56 will be participating in “The Magic of Movement.”

Founded in 1967, Orchesis is a student-run dance company at SUNY Fredonia that puts on major concerts year which are choreographed and performed by Fredonia students. Orchesis also sponsors guest artists, workshops, master classes and charity events throughout the school year.
