As the spring break approaches, Tutoring Services, which provides free tutoring in most subject areas, is recruiting students to become part of its staff for the 2022-2023 academic year.

“Working as a tutor can be an extremely rewarding experience. Our tutors provide an important service to the students of this campus while developing skills and broadening their own understanding of their major,” said Adam Hino, Tutoring Services coordinator.

Tutors are paid to work a scheduled number of hours, usually four to five, in a drop-in arrangement. They may also be assigned to work privately with students registered in the Full Opportunity Program, Educational Development Program or Office of Disability Support Services for Students.

“Being a tutor at the Learning Center has given me an opportunity to provide support to students actively seeking help on assignments, study tips and exam preparation. I have enjoyed finding new ways to help students learn best, and in the process, I've been able to understand course concepts and material better,” said Kelsey Wolfe, a senior Chemistry tutor.

“It is a win-win for both the tutor and tutee, and it's a wonderful way to create an environment of collaborative learning while watching confidence grow in students,” Ms. Wolfe added.

In addition to receiving a paycheck, serving as a tutor looks great on a resume for students seeking admission to graduate programs or competing for jobs, fellowships and teaching positions, Mr. Hino said.

Information sessions for students to learn more about the program and becoming a peer tutor will be held on Wednesday, March 2, and Tuesday, March 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. on both days, at Williams Center Room S204.

The deadline to apply is Friday, April 1, at 4 p.m. Applications are available online.
