‘Pathways to Music’ for children, parents begins fall term

Three early childhood classes will be offered beginning in September by "Pathways to Music," a program of the Fredonia School of Music that provides an exciting opportunity for children and parents to discover the joy of music while singing, moving, listening, and dancing, at the Campus and Community Children’s Center.

‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ opens series on Oct. 20

A Tony Award-winning Broadway hit will be the first offering in the 2017-18 Walter Gloor Mainstage Series. The Department of Theatre and Dance presents six performances of “Peter and the Starcatcher” from Oct. 20 to 28 in Marvel Theatre.

Stonefelt to be honored at Homecoming

Over 40 alumni of the percussion department, along with 10 current students majoring in Music Performance, Music Education and Sound Recording Technology and current faculty from the School of Music are joining together on Saturday, Oct. 21, to celebrate SUNY Distinguished Professor Kay Stonefelt.

Baroque Trio to open annual Children’s Concerts Series

The Children’s Concert Series will open the 12th season of Musical Journeys, a community outreach project of the School of Music, with half-hour performances by the Fredonia Baroque Trio, on Oct. 21, at locations in the north and south county.

Comedy takes a turn on stage when Rockefeller Arts Center presents The Second City Touring Company: Cure for the Common Comedy on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall. The performance may contain adult subject matter.

Concerto Competition winners announced by School of Music

The Fredonia School of Music has announced pianist Jesse Bonaventura, clarinetist Guangzhao Haung and percussionist Dennis O'Keefe as winners of the Annual Concerto Competition, held in King Concert Hall on Sunday, April 30. The two-hour long event included performances by nine talented music students, all competing for the coveted honor of being named Concert Competition winner.

Opening pops event features songs of Carole King, James Taylor

The music of two pop icons from the 1970s will be featured when Rockefeller Arts Center presents “You’ve Got A Friend: The Music of Carole King and James Taylor” on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall. Two long-time friends and collaborators hit songwriter Kirsti Manna and national recording artist Jonathan Birchfield capture the essence of friendship through music with their dynamic performances.

Jazz/classical pianist Weiser joins School of Music faculty

Dr. Nick Weiser, a pianist steeped in both the jazz and classical idioms who has performed at events as far reaching as the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy, and Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival, has joined the School of Music as an assistant professor.
