“Progression” -- a massive, 16-ton, 48-foot-long painted steel sculpture -- was recently installed in front of Fenton Hall. It is on loan to Fredonia until fall of 2018 and its creator, Rochester's Albert Paley, has other work currently featured as part of a seven-week exhibition at the Marion Art Gallery.
Registration for the School of Music's Musical Journeys Program is now open for fall classes for young children. Now in its sixth year, Pathways to Music presents an exciting opportunity for children and parents to discover the joy of music while singing, moving, listening and dancing.
An adaption of an award-winning Broadway musical will open the annual Walter Gloor Mainstage Series. The Department of Theatre and Dance will present six performances of “Cabaret” from Oct. 14 to 18 in Marvel Theatre. Performances will take place Oct. 14-17 at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 17-18 at 2 p.m.
The School of Music is accepting applications from high school string players to participate in a unique master class with The Shanghai Quartet, special guests of this year's String Experience on Saturday, Oct. 3 on the Fredonia campus. The String Experience will also welcome high school string players who wish to participate in the day's activities, including clinics and workshops with Fredonia faculty members.
There is a full slate of exciting arts events scheduled for the fall semester. Theatre, films, exhibits, recitals and ensemble concerts - truly something for everyone. It includes a special event, the residency of The Shanghai Quartet, slated for October in the School of Music.
The $39 million Rockefeller Arts Center addition and renovation project has passed the one-year mark and remains on schedule for completion by August of 2016. Project Shepherd Steve Rees said “diligent efforts” by many parties have kept the project on schedule.

“Karl likes big ideas.” That’s what Ralph Blasting, dean of Fredonia’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, says about Dr. Karl Boelter, who stepped down as director of the School of Music in June and will join its teaching faculty this fall.
The Fredonia Voices, a talented vocal jazz octet, will step into the spotlight once again in King Concert Hall. The group will be among the featured performers when Rockefeller Arts Center presents, “An Evening of Ella and Ellington with The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra,” Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
The Musical Journeys Program of the Fredonia School of Music kicks off its 10th season of free concerts designed to appeal to very young children. Selected student ensembles will perform half-hour Children's Concerts on four Saturday mornings with two performances (one at 10:30 a.m. and one at 11:30 a.m.) beginning on Sept. 26 at Dunkirk Free Library, 536 Central Ave. Future concert dates are on Nov. 7, March 5 and April 30.
