Orchesis Dance Company to present 'Tombé'

Orchesis Dance Company will present “Tombé” on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m., in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. The annual show will feature many talented Fredonia student dancers and choreographers performing various genres of dance including modern, jazz and tap.

Madrigal Feaste slated for Dec. 6

On Saturday, Dec. 6, the School of Music and Department of Theatre and Dance will present the third annual Madrigal Feaste dinner theater performance, held in the Williams Center. The traditional 15th century royal feast and musical program will be a feast for the senses, with authentic food, costumed performers, rousing music and merriment on a grand scale.

Hillman Opera to present 20th century masterpiece from Nov. 7 to 9

The 2014 Hillman Opera is a masterpiece of 20th century American music and theater. Carlisle Floyd’s “Susannah” will be performed on Nov. 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and on Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. in Marvel Theatre. The opera tells an age-old morality tale using Appalachian folk music themes framed in operatic drama.

1980s Fredonia Jazz Ensemble concert slated for Rosch

The annual alumni reunion concert of the 1980s Fredonia Jazz Ensemble is slated for Sunday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public, and will feature tunes by Rob McConnell, Neal Hefti, Joe Zawinul and saxophonist Don Menza.

New Horizons Band to perform

The New Horizons Band of Western New York will present a free concert on Monday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall. The program will include performances by the band, the New Horizons Brass Quintet and the New Horizons iPad Ensemble. Audience members are asked to bring non-perishable food items to the concert and donations will be given to local food banks.

Fredonia film series offers dynamic look at the power of volcanoes

Those interested in experiencing the rush of the exploding lava and in talking to a filmmaker brave enough to capture such moments will have the opportunity to do so when Rockefeller Arts Center presents Peter Rowe’s “Volcanic Planet” on Sat., Nov. 1. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall.

Ninth annual String Experience welcomes young musicians to Fredonia

Now in its ninth year, the annual String Experience workshop hosted by the Fredonia School of Music will welcome middle and high school-aged violinists, violists, cellists and bassists on Saturday, Nov. 15. The full day of workshops starts at 10 a.m. and concludes at 5:30 p.m.

Hillman Opera to host guest lecturer Michael Ching

Acclaimed opera composer and administrator Michael Ching is slated to present a guest lecture hosted by the Hillman Opera on Friday, Oct. 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Diers Recital Hall. Mr. Ching studied composition with Carlisle Floyd, the renowned American composer of, “Susannah,” the upcoming Hillman Opera.
