Fredonia Oboe Trio to give children’s concert at Barker Library

The Fredonia Oboe Trio, comprised of School of Music students Michael Banko of West Seneca and Erin Rush, of Lockport, and Sarah Hamilton, associate professor of oboe, will perform two children’s concerts on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., at Darwin Barker Library in Fredonia.

Shakespeare comedy opens Walter Gloor Mainstage Series

One of the most popular works by one of the world’s greatest playwrights will by presented by the Department of Theatre and Dance to open the 2014-15 Walter Gloor Mainstage Series. “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will run for six performances from Oct. 17 to 25 in Marvel Theatre at Rockefeller Arts Center.

Marion Art Gallery to host exhibition by printmaker Poskovic

The works of a Michigan-based print artist will be featured in the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery beginning Friday, Oct. 17. "We Were All – Endi Poskovic: Printworks,” will open with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 17 in the gallery, which is located on the main level of Rockefeller Arts Center.

Quartetto Gelato to entertain with virtuosic talent and a taste of acrobatics

Quartetto Gelato will take the stage of Rosch Recital Hall on Friday, Oct. 3, at 8 p.m.The internationally known ensemble’s performances encompass classical master works, operatic arias, pyrotechnical solos, multi-instrument mastery, the sizzling energy of tangos, gypsy and folk songs, acrobatics and more into one classical, yet eclectic, act.

Yves Geleyn to provide Visiting Artist presentation

Internationally known animator Yves Geleyn is slated to speak at the Fredonia as a part of its Visiting Artists Program. Hosted by Fredonia’s Department of Visual Arts and New Media, his presentation is on Thursday, Oct. 2, from 8:30 to 10 p.m., in McEwen Hall Room 209. Attendees will learn about Geleyn’s animation career at Passion Pictures in Paris and New York City-based Hornet, Inc.

Meridian Arts Ensemble in concert Sunday Oct. 5 at Rosch

The Fredonia School of Music will present the Meridian Arts Ensemble, recognized around the world for its work in 20th century music as well as creative and experimental movements in ethnic, jazz, and rock styles, in a free public concert on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m. at Rosch Recital Hall. A master class for School of Music students will be held on Monday, Oct. 6, at 4 p.m.

Fredonia to host Double Reed Day

Fredonia will host its ninth annual Double Reed Day on Sunday, Oct. 26, at Mason Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. The day is designed specifically for middle and high school oboists and bassoonists to spend time working in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere with Fredonia's double reed faculty and students.

Western New York Chamber Orchestra opens season with Mozart-themed program

The Western New York Chamber Orchestra will open its 2014-15 Classics Series with a Mozart-themed program on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. in King Concert Hall. The “All Amadeus” concert features three pieces including the Piano Concerto in A major K.414 with pianist Dr. Dmitri Nogordovsky of the School of Music faculty.

"NINE" to premiere at Rosch Recital Hall

Distinguished Professor James Piorkowski will present works from his new album, "NINE," on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to hear the complete performance of Professor Piorkowski’s new album of original guitar works, which is slated to be released this fall by Centaur Records.

Student musicians continue to share music with children

Student musicians from The State University of New York at Fredonia School of Music are scheduled to kick off the 9th annual season of the Children’s Concert Series at Dunkirk Free Library at 536 Central Ave. on Saturday, Sept. 27. The first set of free performances will occur at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and will feature the Fredonia World Mallets Ensemble.
