Conductor Macdonald raises baton, money, to benefit children's cancer clinic

Michael Barone

SUNY Fredonia's Roderick Macdonald, associate professor of trumpet within the School of Music, conducted the world famous Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra on Jan. 19 in a sold-out symphony in Leipzig, Germany, to raise money for the Leipzig Children's Cancer Clinic.

Macdonald conducted works by Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, and Rimsky Korsakov. The Gewandhaus Orchestra's Concert Master Sebastian Breuniger served as the soloist within Tchaikovsky's Violin Concert.

To date this annual orchestral concert, currently in its ninth year, has raised over $250,000 for the Leipzig Children's Cancer Clinic, not including the yet-to-be-determined proceeds from the 2009 event.
