During holidays, campus shutdown in effect; some services still provided

Employees who do not wish to take vacation leave during this time will work in their offices or at alternative sites arranged by the Human Resources Office.

Paycheck Distribution:
Payroll checks dated Dec. 22 will be distributed as usual on Wednesday, Dec. 22. 

The EAP Office will be closed, but the coordinator will check messages left at ext. 3568 and will be available for appointments. 

To conserve utility costs, SUNY Fredonia will curtail services and operations for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, undertaking an annual shutdown that has generated significant savings in the past.  

With the exception of a few offices, college buildings will be closed, and heat reduced, from 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011.  Regular business hours will resume Monday, Jan. 3. 

The Campus and Community Children's Center will also be closed from Dec. 24 through Jan. 2. 

The Residence Life Office will be closed per the university schedule, but residence halls will close on Saturday, Dec. 18, reopening Saturday, Jan. 22 for the Spring Semester.

The Director of Residence Life will advise students regarding moving fish, plants and other items affected by cold temperatures to a central location where air temperature will remain warm.


Exceptions

Mail and Delivery:

There will be no general campus delivery or pick up of mail during the holiday shutdown. However, the mailroom will be open Tuesday and Thursday, December 28 and 30, from 8 a.m. to noon. On those days, departments can pick up their mail at the mailroom, or deliver it there for posting. 

Central Receiving will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 27 through 30, but will deliver packages to buildings on a requested basis only. 

Admissions Office will be open:  The Admissions Office  (Fenner House) will be open, but with limited staff, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. except Friday, Dec. 24, when it will be closed. All phone messages will be retrieved frequently and calls returned.  

University Police will be open:  University Police will be open 24 hours a day, every day. Call 716-673-3333 during an emergency. 

Fredonia College Foundation will be open: The Foundation House will be open during business hours from Monday, Dec. 27 through Thursday, Dec. 30.

Facilities Services will be open: The office will be open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. except Friday, Dec. 24, when it will be closed. There will be minimal snow plowing, snow shoveling, and custodial services throughout the shutdown. Non-essential parking lots will not be plowed and there will be no lighting in some of the non-residential parking lots. In case of an emergency, contact the Heating Plant (closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1) at ext. 3454 or University Police at ext. 3333.

Request for maintenance: The online work requests will be monitored daily.

SUNY Fredonia Federal Credit Union will be open: 

Friday, Dec. 24:  9 a.m. to noon
Monday, Dec. 27: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 28:  9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 29:  9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 30: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 31: 9 a.m. to noon

Dods and Steele Halls will have limited activities:

From Dec. 23 through Jan. 2 the Fitness Center, Racquetball Courts, and Pool will be closed to general users (The pool is closing on Dec. 20 to undergo maintenance).

Ice Rink: There will be public skating sessions Sunday and Monday, Dec. 26, 27 and Sunday, Jan. 2 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.  

FSA Office will be closed from Friday, Dec. 17 at 5 p.m. and re-open Monday, Jan. 3.

Starbucks will be open: 

Monday, Dec. 20 through Thursday, Dec. 23: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 24: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 25: closed
Sunday, Dec. 26: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Monday through Thursday, Dec. 27 - 30:  9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 31:  9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday, Jan.  1:  Closed
Sunday, Jan. 2: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Monday through Friday, Jan.  3 -  7: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 8 and 9: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The University Bookstore and Convenience Store hours will be open during weekdays:  

Monday, Dec. 20 through Thursday, Dec. 23: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Friday, Dec.  24: closed 
Monday through Thursday, Dec.  27 - 30: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Monday through Friday, Jan. 3 - 7: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
