Elton John tribute show opens pops series at SUNY Fredonia on Sept. 21

A tribute concert featuring the music of a modern pop legend will open the 2013-14 Lake Shore Savings Season at The Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center at SUNY Fredonia.
“Almost Elton John and the Rocket Band: Remember When Rock Was Young starring Craig A. Meyer” will be presented on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall. This is the opening event in the DFT Communications Pops Series.
Propelled by a series of hit singles and a powerful live show, Elton John has been a mainstay in the world of pop music since the early 1970s.
The aural and visual aspects that have made John a pop music icon are captured “Almost Elton John and the Rocket Band: Remember When Rock Was Young starring Craig A. Meyer."
Described as a “spectacular theatrical experience and musical journey,” the concert features John’s chart topping hits including “Benny and the Jets,” “Philadelphia Freedom,” “Crocodile Rock,” “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” “Candle in the Wind” and more.
In addition to the music, the show features the costumes and charisma of Elton John. It stars Craig A. Meyer, a multiple award-winning singer/actor/pianist.
On Broadway, Meyer created the role of Clinton Badger in MGM’s classic “Meet Me In St. Louis.” He toured nationally in “Cats” as Skimbleshanks, as The Red Caboose in “Starlight Express,” and as Mike Nulty in Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas.”
His television and film appearances include guest-starring roles on “Necessary Roughness,” “Will & Grace,” “Good Morning Miami,” “Family Law” and “General Hospital.” Meyer has also worked with Alan Menken on Disney’s “Aladdin” and with Tim Rice and Elton John on “The Lion King.”
His latest project was the film “Identity Thief” with Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy which opened in February 2013.
In addition to his numerous credits with roles in film, television and on Broadway, Meyer has toured internationally and recorded with music legends including Frankie Valli and Barry Manilow.
After working with Meyer, Manilow said that “Craig A. Meyer is one of the most talented people I have ever worked with. He can do anything!”
Meyer is considered to be the best Elton John tribute artist in the market today because of his strong vocals, striking resemblance and amazing talent on the piano.
The concert also features the acclaimed seven-piece Rocket Band, which includes three backup singers.
