Faculty trio to perform works by Mozart, Dvorak on March 22

Fredonia music faculty members Natasha Farny (cello), Jitka Frankova (piano) and Janet Sung (violin) will perform Mozart’s “Piano Trio in C Major, K. 548” and Dvorak’s “Piano Trio in f minor, Op. 65”on Wednesday, March 22 at 8 p.m. in the Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.



Ms. Farny has performed as soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Juilliard Symphony Orchestra and the Western New York Chamber Orchestra, among others. She has given sonata recitals and participated in numerous music festivals throughout the United States and Europe. Dr. Farny holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music, Yale University, the Eastman School of Music and The Julliard School, and formerly served as assistant principal cellist for the Rhode Island Philharmonic.



A native of the Czech Republic, Ms. Frankova began her music studies at the age of four and was recognized as one of the top young pianists in her country by the age of 18. The recipient of numerous awards for her musical abilities, Ms. Frankova has earned degrees from the University of Music in Graz, Austria and Rice University in Houston, Texas, where she is currently pursuing her doctoral studies.



Praised by Leonard Slatkin as a “major musical personality,” Ms. Sung has appeared internationally with the Aspen Chamber Symphony, the Pusan Philharmonic (South Korea) and the Omsk Philharmonic Orchestra (Russia), among others. Ms. Sung’s performances have been aired on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today,” and she has been welcomed to such prestigious events as the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland and the Aspen Music Festival. She will participate in Mark O’Connor’s Fiddle Celebration tour this fall. Ms. Sung is a graduate of Harvard University and The Julliard School.
