Meeting to explore Russia study abroad learning experience
An informational meeting that explores SUNY Fredonia’s Study Abroad to Russia summer course will be offered to interested students on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at W231 Thompson Hall.
Jack Croxton, director of the Office of Student Creative Activity and Research, and Anton Agafonov of Modern Languages and Literatures, will conduct a presentation highlighted by a slide show.
The trip, to run June 1 to 18, will provide ample opportunity for students to learn about Russian history and culture in classes they attend alongside local students at St. Petersburg State University. The Hermitage Art Museum, formerly the Imperial Residence and currently a world famous art museum; the majestic fountain cascades and parks of Peterhof; and the golden baroque Catherine’s Palace are among the sites to be toured. Students will also travel to Moscow, where they will visit Red Square, the Kremlin, and St. Basil’s Cathedral.
Past excursions to Russia have drawn praise from SUNY Fredonia students as a result of the unique blend of interesting class meetings and daily tours. Aside from learning Russian history, they were able to connect with local students and develop sustainable friendships. Overall, students claim the trip was a life-changing adventure and hope to go back.
