School of Music bands announce concerts

On Tuesday, March 1 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall, the Fredonia School of Music Concert Band will take the stage under the direction of Erin Otto Meissner. The program will feature the beautifully exotic Symphony No. 4 by Alan Hovhaness and conclude with John Hart's entertaining Cartoon. Guest conductor and alumnus, Staff Sergeant Benjamin Albright, a conducting apprentice with the United States Marine Band, The President's Own, will be a featured guest on the program.

On Thursday, March 3 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall, Carl Mazzio will lead the Wind Symphony in a program that includes music by Robert Sierra, David Maslanka and Bruce Broughton.

On Friday, March 4 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall, Carl Mazzio will take the podium again with the All College Band in a performance of music by Leonard Bernstein and Percy Grainger.

Strauss to conduct area concerts

Dr. Robert Strauss will conduct the Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus in “ WALK TOGETHER,” a concert to be performed at three sites in May and featuring “Tyler’s Suite,” a nine-song cycle about the life and death of Tyler Clementi, as well as songs from, or about, Buffalo, NY.

Marrazzo conducts master classes

School of Music Assistant Professor Don Marrazzo gave a master class at Houghton University and also participated in a two-day residency at Detroit Opera to work with members of the Resident Artist Program.
