School of Music students to perform with U.S. Army Field Band
Sixteen students from the School of Music have been chosen to perform alongside The United States Army Field Band and Soldiers' Chorus in a free concert on Monday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall.
All tickets for the performance have been distributed.
The student musicians consist of eight instrumentalists and eight vocalists selected by Fredonia School of Music faculty members Dr. Sarah Hamilton and Patrick Rose.
The instrumentalists are: Matt Caputy (trumpet), Whitney Nightingale (oboe), Sara Wright (flute), Erin Hannon (clarinet), Mike Maroney (percussion), Russ Smith (tuba), Mackenzie Smith (euphonium) and Colin Reinagel (bassoon).
The vocalists are: Jordan Loftus, Mariami Bekauri, Aixa Garcia, Crystal Lee, Erik Rasmussen, David Waterland, Tyler Mecklenburg and Collin McCrea.
Ticket holders will receive priority access to the seating area but must be in the hall by 7:15 p.m. to ensure seating. After that time, any open seats will be made available to any other patrons, whether they possess a ticket or not.
The Oct. 24 performance is presented by Rockefeller Arts Center and sponsored by The OBSERVER, the Jamestown Post Journal and WDOE and 96 KIX Country.
Also on Oct. 24, Cantare, an educational outreach group within the Soldiers’ Chorus, will present a program of opera scenes at noon in Rosch Recital Hall.
The program will be about an hour in length and includes a question-and-answer session. The event is free and open to students and the public.
Cantare is comprised of classically trained soldier-musicians from the Soldiers’ Chorus, and is committed to performing opera and song for various settings, including educational outreach, recitals, and chamber music shows. The versatile musicians, all of whom are highly regarded performers in their field, strive to bring fresh characterizations and a dramatic flair to their spirited performances.
The Concert Band & Soldiers’ Chorus are the oldest and largest of The U.S. Army Field Band’s performing components. Founded in 1946 and 1957 respectively, the two ensembles combine to present joint concerts on their national tours. They have performed in all 50 states and 30 foreign countries for audiences totaling hundreds of millions.
The 65-member Concert Band and 29-member Soldiers’ Chorus perform regularly in some of the most famous concert halls in the world, and just as often in the humblest auditoriums in the smallest of communities. The joining of these two ensembles allows them to offer unparalleled versatility of programming, ranging from orchestral masterworks and operatic arias to Sousa marches, jazz classics, and Broadway musicals.
