“There is always a tremendous feeling of accomplishment when I see the work of the graduating students in the gallery,” said June Miller-Spann, administrator of the Rockefeller Arts Center Art Gallery.  “They have dedicated countless hours in perfecting this exhibition, and now they will have the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity to the public. It has been a real privilege to work with these students.”

The first of two senior art exhibitions, “Artist By Number,” will open with a free public reception at the State University of New York at Fredonia on Friday, April 7 at 7 p.m. in the Rockefeller Arts Center Art Gallery Lobby.

“Artist By Number” is supported by The Department of Visual Arts and New Media, The Friends of Rockefeller Arts Center and The Rockefeller Arts Center Art Gallery.

“Artist By Number” will feature artwork from members of the SUNY Fredonia Department of Visual Arts and New Media Class of 2006 in such media as graphic design, painting, ceramics, painting, photography and drawing.

“It should be pretty interesting,” said Lauren Walkowski, publicity chair for “Artist By Number” and a graphic design student who will be participating in her final show as a SUNY Fredonia undergraduate. “Everyone has been working on something different, so it will be nice to see everyone’s ideas together at once. I think it will be fun.”

In addition to the hours spent in the studio throughout the spring semester, the student-artists have been responsible for all of the aspects of the exhibition. From the artist statements and slides to the placement of their final projects in the Rockefeller Arts Center Art Gallery, “Artist By Number” has been strictly a student affair.

These additional efforts were required in order to allow the young artists to experience a number of the different facets involved with the conception and production of an exhibition.

“Artist By Number” will remain on display through Wednesday, April 19. The second senior art exhibition, “Build Expand Achieve,” will open with a free public reception on Friday, April 28 at 7 p.m. in the Rockefeller Arts Center Art Gallery.
