Spring Break is March 15-19; changes in operating hours announced

Christine Davis Mantai

Spring Break at SUNY Fredonia starts with the end of classes Friday, March 12 until they resume Monday, March 22. Offices will be open for regular business hours, but other facilities such as dining halls, Steele Hall, Dods Hall, the Bookstore and convenience store, will be closed.

With the exception of a travel day slated on Monday, April 5, this is the only break in the academic schedule until the Spring Semester ends Saturday, May 15, following Commencement.

During the break Reed Library will change its hours, closing on the weekend of March 13-14, and maintaining hours of operation the following week, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The library will also be closed Saturday, March 20, and resume its regular academic hours Sunday, March 21 at 6 p.m.

Starbucks will remain open throughout the break, with a change of operating hours. It will be open Saturday, March 13 and Sunday March 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday, March 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Normal hours will resume on Sunday, March 21.

Park and Ride:

The Park & Ride shuttle bus will cease operations for the Spring Semester Break on: Friday, March 12, 2010 at 5:30 pm, and will resume on: Monday, March 22, 2010, at 7:30 am, (the first day of classes).

Blue Devils on the road

Student athletes in baseball, lacrosse, softball, swimming and diving, and track and field will be busy, however.

The University of Minneapolis Aquatic Center is the site of the NCAA Swimming and Diving championships, where two Fredonia Blue Devils -- freshman Sarah Ficarro and senior Christian Torres -- qualified to compete March 17-20. They will be accompanied by diving coach John Crawford and swim coach Arthur Wang. According to Athletic Director Greg Prechtl, "Earning a spot at nationals is very difficult. To get two divers is quite an accomplishment."

Fredonia athletes who qualify will also compete at the NCAA Indoor Championship for track and field at DePauw University's Indoor Center in Greencastle, Ind., March 12-13. So far, Nick Guarino will be competing at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field championships as he currently has the fastest time of any Division III athlete in the nation in the mile.

The Men's Baseball and Women's Softball teams will participate in the Gene Cusic Classic at Fort Myers, Fla., from March 11-19.

Women's Lacrosse will play at the Spring Fling at West Palm Beach, Fla., March 12-16.
