A special highlight of this year's String Experience will include a performance by SUNY Fredonia concerto competition winner, Lina Horwitz. The free public concert is part of the annual String Experience workshop for high school string players, and will take place on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. A reception will follow.
Lina Horwitz, a violin performance major from Rochester, N.Y., was a first place winner in the SUNY Fredonia Concerto Competition last spring.
She will close the String Experience Gala Faculty Concert with Henryk Wienawski's Violin Concerto No. 2 in D minor, accompanied by the String Experience Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Roderick MacDonald.
A violin student of David Colwell, Lina transferred to SUNY Fredonia from Eastman School of Music. She graduated from Brighton High School in 2007.
THE STRING EXPERIENCE is a seminar for high school violinists, violists, cellists and bassists that brings you in contact with Fredonia's conservatory-trained string faculty.
The String Experience exemplifies the unique one-on-one relationship that is fostered between students and teachers at Fredonia. Young musicians will be given the chance to improve performance and practice techniques, interact with other string players, and attend a recital with our distinguished faculty artists.
String players will work in small sessions, developing performance skills, working on issues of stage fright and the audition process, improving technical skills such intonation, tone production, and more. The atmosphere is designed to be a fun, supportive learning environment for students, but teachers and parents are also encouraged to attend - we hope you'll join us for this exciting event.
