The Women’s Student Union and Women’s Studies Program at SUNY Fredonia will present a month-long series of events for Women’s History Month, which occurs annually in March. This year’s theme is “Revealing Positions on Sexuality.”

Opening ceremonies will take place on Monday, Mar. 1 in the Horizon Room of the Williams Center, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. A dinner will be provided followed by a presentation titled, “Hooking Up,” by guest speaker Amber Madison, a well-known sex author and educator who has appeared on NBC’s “Today” show and MTV News, and featured in The Boston Globe. The event is free and open to the public.

Madison is the author of the books “Hooking Up: a Girl's All-out Guide to Sex and Sexuality” – which she had published when she was just 22 – and “Talking Sex with your Kids.” She has spoken on panels for the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, was the keynote speaker for the Massachusetts Emergency Contraception Network, and won a sexual health communication award from Choice USA in 2008. She is currently the sex expert for BettyConfidential.com, a women’s issues-focused news, advice and social networking site.

Additional events for Women’s History Month include: the Rearranging Womanhouse Art Gallery Opening (Mar. 6); guest lecturers Tomi-Ann Roberts (Mar. 9), Max Stein (Mar. 31) and Shira Tarrant (Apr. 1); a showing of the film, “Fire” (Mar. 23); and the Women’s Studies 2010 Student Research Conference (Mar. 24).
