Buffalo News Editor is keynote at 4th Annual Journalism Conference on Saturday
Buffalo News Editor Mike Connelly will deliver the keynote address as the SUNY Fredonia student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists presents its annual conference on Saturday, April 5. The conference will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with Connelly delivering his address at 1:30 p.m.
Public Speaking Contest slated for April 8
Students seeking a venue to sharpen their oratorical skills or those who simply enjoy being captivated by talented speakers are invited to the annual Public Speaking Competition on Tuesday, April 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at McEwen Hall Room 202. Black Student Union to host 'Culture Fest' and Spring Fashion Show
The Black Student Union (BSU) will be hosting “Culture Fest” on Saturday, April 5 at noon in Steele Hall fieldhouse. BSU will also be hosting a fashion show on the same day in the same location at 8 p.m. Tickets are available for both events at the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center for $5, and will also be available at the door. All are welcome to attend.
Student volunteers to serve for ‘Dining in the Dark’
Volunteers from the SUNY Fredonia Health Professions Club will serve as sighted guides for the upcoming “Dining in the Dark” fundraiser. The dinner will be on Thursday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m., at the Chautauqua Suites in Mayville. Guests of “Dining in the Dark” will be immersed in a unique dining experience by eating dinner blindfolded.
HAIL! Fredonia Records partners with WNY charity for Clarence fundraiser
SUNY Fredonia’s student record label, HAIL! Fredonia Records, is co-hosting a concert to benefit Melina’s White Light, Saturday, April 12, in Clarence, N.Y. Melina’s White Light is a not-for-profit foundation formed to bring attention to neuroblastoma, a rare cancer, and to raise funds to support ongoing cancer research. It honors Melina Riniolo, who passed away at the age of 14.
'Applause for Paws' to raise funds for humane society
Comedy will take center stage – quite fittingly on April Fool’s Day – for “Applause for Paws,” a unique fundraiser SUNY Fredonia’s Interactive Theatre Society will stage on Tuesday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. at McEwen Hall Room 202 to benefit the Lakeshore Humane Society. Members of the theatre society, the same troupe that puts on “Terror in the Trees” every Halloween, will lead the merry-making that free and open to the public.
Professor James Ivey to portray life of Justice William O. Douglas at Jackson Center
A staged reading of the play, “Mountain – The Journey of Justice Douglas,” will be presented Saturday, March 29 by Department of Theatre and Dance Professor James Ivey and seniors Lindsay Zimmerman and Steve Russell at the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown. The event is slated 8 p.m. at the center located at 305 E. 4th St. Prior to the performance will be a reception for SUNY Fredonia alumni at 6 p.m. in the center’s banquet room.
Mock trial on April 1 calls for jury audience
The Fredonia Mock trial team will perform a case on Tuesday, April 1, at 7 p.m. in Williams Center Room S204ABC.The demonstration is intended to provide insight on mock trial. Team members will also briefly discuss the kind of work and time commitments that mock trial requires.
Korean International Student Society to host Olympics-inspired event
The SUNY Fredonia Korean International Student Society (K.I.S.S.) will be hosting its version of the “Korean Olympics” on Friday, March 28 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Dods Hall gymnasium. The free event will help bring together international and American students using Olympics-inspired games including kickball, dodge-ball and a team relay.
