SUNY Fredonia revealed a sharp drop in its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, according to its latest Greenhouse Gas Audit, generating a more than 29 percent decrease in CO 2 equivalent emissions from 2011 to 2013.
Students within the campus' Public Relations Capstone course have chosen Chautauqua Rails to Trails and Greystone Nature Preserve as the two organizations they will support during their 2014 Community Partners Program. The organizations were chosen from 16 applicants, the largest number of applications the program has received since it began in 2001. This is also Fredonia’s largest class of public relations students to work on the project, marking the fourth straight year of record enrollment.
Local audiences will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of dance styles in an evening of grace and beauty when the Fredonia Dance Ensemble presents its annual concert from Feb. 21 to 23 in Marvel Theatre. Performances are planned for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22 with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Feb. 23.
Ethos New Music Society will conclude its NewSound Festival by sponsoring three concerts, beginning with a performance by composer / singer / songwriter Gabriel Kahane on Friday, Feb. 21, followed by composer / electric guitarist D.J. Sparr on Saturday, Feb. 22, and concluding with Washington D.C.-based composer Armando Bayolo on Sunday, Feb. 23. All three will be held at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.
David Folkenflik, an acclaimed media correspondent with National Public Radio, will explore “The Future of News: Technology and Journalism” as the keynote speaker in the 2013-2014 Arts and Sciences Brown Bag Lecture Series on Thursday, Feb. 20, at noon at Rosch Recital Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Judah Friedlander, proclaimed by “30 Rock” creator and co-star Tina Fey as “one of the all-time greatest weirdos,” will treat local audiences to his engaging and crowd-pleasing stand-up humor at King Concert Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m. Also appearing are comedians Jermaine Fowler and Kevin Barnett, who can be seen on shows such as MTV's "Guy Code" and "College Humor." The event is sponsored by the Student Association and is suggested for mature audiences.
The SUNY Fredonia Business Club will present its 37th Annual Business Person of the Year Award to Rita Canfora and Debbie Michalak, owners of the Cutting Crew beauty salon. The award ceremony will be Thursday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. A team of SUNY Fredonia’s Fred Global Enactus students traveled to Belize to begin their mission of empowering local artisans to improve their standard of living. The team formed strategic partnerships with the National Institute of Culture and History and the Rotary Club of Belize to help in this effort and support Belizean children’s education.
