Vassoler book: How Brazilian city re-shaped its destiny

How city residents and leaders in Curitiba, Brazil, succeeded at very little cost in turning a potential disaster into a thriving metropolis that is friendly to the environment and has expanded city services to the shantytowns, has been the focus of Political Science Professor Ivani Vassoler’s research and teaching for almost 10 years. Her new book tells the story in detail.

Three seniors are student teaching in Australia

Making a 13-week summer commitment, the Fredonia seniors are immersing themselves in an Australian perspective on education, while at the same time forming comparisons that they hope will make them better teachers in the U.S. "It's a unique program and it's actually a world exemplar in terms of international student-teacher programs,” said Colin Balfour.

Summer in London a chance to explore

Graduate students and undergraduates took two courses this summer offered by SUNY Fredonia's English Department that included an educational trip to London, England. The courses, focusing on women's literature and major authors, were taught by professors Jeanette McVicker and Adrienne McCormick.

Mexico study program preserving indigenous culture

Six undergraduates have just finished the first annual six-week study-abroad program in Mexico this summer at the Ollin Tlahtoalli Centro de Lenguas y Cultura Mexicana. Located in Oaxaca, the center is dedicated to preserving endangered Mexican indigenous languages, the teaching of Spanish within a Mexican cultural framework, and the promotion of Mexican culture and traditions.

International Education Week to be celebrated in November

Several events highlighting the diversity of the world’s cultures will be co-sponsored by the Black Student Union, Writer’s Ring, the Center for Multicultural Affairs, the International Education Center, and the Native American SUNY Western Consortium at SUNY Fredonia the week of Nov. 10 through 15.

Lundquist Fellow relates life changing experience

That’s the feeling SUNY Fredonia student Anne Marie Miller, the 2007 recipient of the Lundquist International Fellowship, brought back with her to campus this fall.
