Alumnus van Schoonhoven a winner in George London Foundation competition; alumna receives Encouragement Award
Kyle van Schoonhoven, a tenor and 2011 graduate of the Fredonia School of Music, was one of five winners of the prestigious George London Foundation for Singers annual competition, held Feb. 22 at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City. Fredonia 2014 alumna and mezzo-soprano Amanda Lynn Bottoms, who was also a finalist in the competition, received a $1,000 George London Encouragement Award.
Alumnus to analyze the role of the press in Trump era at Writers@Work residency
The role of the free press in the Trump era will be explored and perhaps even scrutinized by Los Angeles Times journalist Scott Martelle, a 1984 Fredonia graduate, during a Writers@Work residency on Sunday through Tuesday, March 24 to 26.
Alumnus to conduct residency, perform in recital
Alexander Davis, a New York City-based freelance bassoonist and Fredonia graduate, will return to his alma mater for a three-day residency. A guest artist recital with School of Music faculty and members of the Fredonia Bassoon Studio will highlight the March 19-21 event.

New endowment created to promote diversity education
The Collingwood Distinguished Lecture for Diversity was recently established at Fredonia as part of the Fredonia College Foundation’s Nurturing Innovation Campaign. A $250,000 gift from an anonymous Fredonia graduate will provide annual support for an honorarium to bring a nationally recognized speaker of diversity to campus each year.
