Frerichs to give President's Award for Excellence lecture on Sept. 8

Professor Timothy Frerichs of the Department of Visual Arts and New Media will present the 2015 President’s Award for Excellence for Teaching and Learning Lecture, “On Paper: Creativity and Transformation in Education,” on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. in Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall. The President’s Award for Excellence is given each year to a teacher-scholar on the Fredonia faculty whose teaching is innovative and highly effective.

Youngerman Center to host Stroke Awareness Walk

The Henry C. Youngerman Center for Communication Disorders at Fredonia will be hosting its annual Stroke Awareness Walk on Saturday, Sept. 12. The event is provided to increase the community awareness of strokes, to provide education on stroke prevention and to introduce services available at the Youngerman Center. Services offered during the event will include educational handouts and free hearing screenings.

Activities Night set for Wednesday, Sept. 2

Informal “meet-and-greets” for students interested in joining or learning more about student clubs at Fredonia will be offered during Activities Night on Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., in Dods Grove, with the Steele Hall Fieldhouse the alternate site in the event of poor weather. Most of the more than 170 student clubs at Fredonia will have tables, booths or other displays set up to introduce themselves at the event.

Welcome Week, which begins Monday, Aug. 24, is filled with activities and events. Activities are jointly sponsored by Spectrum Entertainment and Student Association and are free and open to all Fredonia students.

De-stress for Success to begin Monday, May 4

De-stress for Success is a series of events, programs and workshops designed to help students to find ways to reduce stress in a healthy, productive manner, and gain the focus they need to succeed. Events, which are free to all students, begin Monday, May 4 and conclude Thursday, May 14.

Senior Activities Week launches April 26

Fredonia’s Senior Challenge Committee will kick off Fredonia’s first ever Senior Activities Week starting April 26 through May 7. There will be a wide variety of activities for the senior class leading up to Commencement.

Student Research and Creativity Exposition on April 30

An anticipated 300 students will be sharing their work at the 17th annual Student and Creativity Exposition in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room on Thursday, April 30, from 1 to 6 p.m. There will also be a dance performance in the studio at Dods Hall Room 148 at 1:30 p.m., and a keynote address by Department of Communication Assistant Professor Roslin Smith at 4 p.m.

Buy a paper on Buffalo News Kid’s Day slated for April 28

Student Association groups and Residence Hall Councils at Fredonia are slated to participate in Buffalo News Kid’s Day on Tuesday, April 28, from 5:30 a.m. until 9 a.m. The students will be selling a special edition of the Buffalo News for a dollar to benefit the Buffalo Variety Club and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.
