A remedy for Anti-Americanism coming up at next Brown Bag

Dr. Bond Benton, professor in the department of communication, will continue the presentations by SUNY Fredonia scholars at the International Brown Bag Lunch series when he presents his remedy to Anti-Americanism based on his research into the American “brand.” The presentation, entitled, "Marketing Brand America," will take place in Fenton Hall 127 on Monday, Feb. 7 at 12 p.m. The event is open to everyone and will last about an hour. Drinks will be provided and guests are encouraged to bring a snack or lunch

Copyright infringement panel opens Brown Bag series Feb. 2

The Arts and Humanities Brown Bag Series at SUNY Fredonia will present a panel discussion on the topic of copyright infringement on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at noon in S-104 of the Williams Center. The discussion ends with the Brown Bag Dessert and informal conversation with the panelists. The event is free and open to faculty, students and the general public.

"Gasland" to kick-off environmental film series

The film will be screened Thursday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. at the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator in Dunkirk. Sarah Buckley, founder of Wales POWR (Protecting Our Water Rights), will lead a discussion about the film and the issues it raises for Western New York residents. The event is free and open to the public.

Aimee Nezhukumatathil is presenting at AWP conference

Aimee Nezhukumatathil, English Professor, is a featured presenter at the 2011 conference of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs held in Washington, D.C., February 2 through 5. She will be a panelist in two sessions: "How to Make a Poem," and "Outsiders Writing the Outdoors."

Campus will examine ways to infuse sustainability into education mission through two-day workshop

To facilitate a dialogue about infusing sustainability content into the academic curriculum, Jaimie Cloud will be giving a two-day workshop at SUNY Fredonia on “Education for Sustainability” starting Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 9 a.m. in the Horizon Room of the Williams Center. All members of the campus community are welcome to attend the free workshop, which is designed to enhance the campus’s review of its general education program, most commonly known as the CCC (college core curriculum)

Benton to teach J-Term course on the evolution and cultural impact of video games

Among the six new tenure-track faculty who began teaching at SUNY Fredonia this fall is Communications Professor Bond Benton, who is introducing an online course on the evolution and impact of video games this J-Term. An expert in international and intercultural communications, Dr. Benton worked with the U.S. State Department for six years, traveling for his work to Kosovo, Jerusalem, Beirut, Rwanda, and throughout Western Europe

Campus icon Steinberg passes Honors torch after 20 years

David Kinkela takes over the university's Honors Program as Dr. Ted Steinberg steps down from directing the program for the past 20 years. A reception will be held in the beginning of the spring semester to acknowledge Steinberg for his long service to the program and to welcome Kinkela to his new position. In addition, a new endowment has been created in Steinberg’s name which will fund scholarships for Honors Program students. During Dr. Steinberg's tenure, the program grew from 100 to 400 students.

Mariner's Mirror publishes article by Markus Vink

A review article by Markus Vink, professor of history, has been published in the latest issue of "The Mariner's Mirror," an internationally-renowned, peer-reviewed journal of The Society for Nautical Research, featuring articles on naval and maritime history, nautical archaeology and all aspects of seafaring and lore of the sea.

Award-winning author and stress mgmt. expert to speak to students Nov. 30

Maria Pascucci, an award-winning author of Campus Calm University and founder of CampusCalm.com, will be speaking at SUNY Fredonia on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. in 202 McEwen Hall. Her talk will help students discover how to be a stress-free student leader. CampusCalm.com is a website designed to empower students to become leaders and change-makers, while avoiding stress.
