Elizabeth "Kris" (Walton) Beal, age 88, of Fredonia, N.Y., died Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the TLC/HN Health Care Facility in Irving, N.Y. She was the former "First Lady" of SUNY Fredonia, married to Dallas K. Beal, president from 1971 to 1985.

Campus flags were lowered Wednesday, Dec. 14 in memory of Lecturer Janice D. Slaton, Esq., who died Saturday, Dec. 10. An alumna of SUNY Fredonia and a practicing attorney, Ms. Slaton began teaching criminal procedural law in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, and Criminal Justice in 2008. She was a former Assistant District Attorney for Chautauqua County. The family requests that memorials in her name be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Open Door No. 3 Church Building Fund or the Janice D. Slaton, Esq. Scholarship. The campus was saddened to learn that International Studies major Graham E. Andrus of Bath, N.Y., died Aug. 12, while snorkeling in Seneca Lake. He was a counselor at Camp Whitman and a certified scuba diver. A transfer student from Corning Community College, Mr. Andrus graduated in May 2010 with a degree in History, focusing on Global Studies. In the Fall of 2010, he re-entered Fredonia as a second baccalaureate student in International Studies focusing on Developing Nations with a minor in Political Science. At Fredonia he was active with Fredonia Radio Systems, Ground Fighting and Ultimate Frisbee Clubs. Graham described himself on Facebook as “Just your average guy, who through the twist of fate, was given some of the greatest friends and family anyone could ask for.” Memorials are being accepted at the Fredonia College Foundation.
